Getaway

We went to Virginia to visit Sara, Ed, Archer and Geneva this weekend.  I don’t know why but I do love a road trip, all the things to see and talk about and the excitement to get where you’re going.  I was supremely proud of Amelia who powered through the entire car ride without a peep.  Almost nine hours in a car and she was raring to go which was good because so was Archer.  They had a fab afternoon together and it was great being with our friends again.  The kids even had a bath together and whilst Amelia scared Archer with her up-front-come-get-me attitude, they enjoyed a very different end to their usual evening routine.  (The video will have to stay in the vault if I still want either of them to be talking to me when they’re older).

On Saturday, after a naughty breakfast of pancakes we got all 7 of us ready and went to the top of a mountain to visit the zoo…what a great place to be.  The air was clear, the sun was shining and the kids got to blow off some steam.  Sara caused me to hyperventilate and look at her with sheer horror when she told me that she runs (yes, runs) up the mountain – FOR FUN.  Seriously?!  I can feel my airways closing up now as I relive the conversation!!  LOL.  The kid truly had a ball playing with one another and chasing after each other (OK, Amelia mostly chased after Archer but they were both laughing).  I do hope they’ll always be friends…

We had such a wonderful time catching up and seeing their new city, it just all went by so quickly.  Next time, when we barge in, we’ll be staying for longer…there is so much more I want to do and so much more to catch up on…thanks for having us.  We had a wonderful time with amazing friends.

Of course I got some pictures although most are snapshots…thanks Sara for the family pic, it’s been a long time since we had a picture with all of us in it.  Amelia has been having fun with jumping, she does it all day long and seems to really be doing well with it…

Three.

All dolled up, we took a little walk and got some shots…such a pretty outfit (thank you Grandma Betty).

I am so glad that I have all these memories of Amelia.  I can look at any of the pictures from the 156 weeks that I been taking them and remember her right then.  It feels like it’s passing me by until I look back on all the memories.  But, even then, it doesn’t seem like there are enough weeks to remember her growing.

Happy Birthday sweet girl…

Birthday Girl!

Wow, three. I never bought into the idea of being sad that someone is getting older.  It happens and therefore I didn’t see why it should be sad.  But, last night as I tucked Amelia in, it occurred to me just how quickly she is growing, and that it’s passing by in a flash.  Lump in throat moment.

She woke up to a decorated house that Christmas would be jealous of.  All full of excitement as she ripped open cards first (without being prompted) and then her gifts.  What a ball she had.  Then it was topped off with sticky bun waffles and brown sugar cinnamon syrup.  Since it was a special occasion she got candles on her waffle and the very special appearance (so late in the morning) of her daddy.

With her Happy Birthday music box, train set, bus and puzzles she wedged everything on the table for breakfast with her.  We bargained a little so there was room for all of us…

So much fun crammed into the two hours before school!!

Bargaining

You know…if I do what you want to do for a little while then you do what I want you to do.  I am scared to say it out loud but here goes…I think the midday naps may be on the way out!  Eeek…what to do?  That cup of tea and time to stare into space would be gone.  So, I devised a cunning plan, I thought I would make a bargain with her.  She wanted to go outside and I wanted her to take a nap, so I offered that we’d take a little walk but only if when we went inside that she tried to nap.  So, outside we went.  It’s not hard to see why…she wanted to show off.  Oh yeah, she got compliments galore all morning from old men to little girls.  She certainly knows how to rock it and I LOVE that she loves her accessories.  But, as a lady in the grocery store pointed out, that will become expensive as she gets older.  Yes, I am beginning to see that.

It was definitely not a failure…she’s in her room now having quiet time.  Only a few months ago my bargain would have been met with screaming and a good sized tantrum…
