Because She Asked

we washed the dogs today.  Ask is probably the wrong word to use, she gathered up every supply we could need to wash the dogs and took my hand to the hose pipe to turn the water on.  A pretty clear message of her plans for the afternoon.  She got it all right too from the shampoo to the wash mitt.  Good for her.  Since it has to pretty much be one of the last really warm days left in this warm winter, I didn’t see why we shouldn’t.  The same cannot be said for Mojo and Rosie who sat cowering in the corner watching Amelia wield the hose.  Mojo was actually shaking.  I should have videoed it!!!  I was impressed with Amelia though, no strong-arm tactics were used…she was super gentle with the dogs.

Of course, no hose pipe episode would be complete without hydrating either.  So, in true I-Learnt-This-From-Daddy style (it certainly wasn’t something I taught her), she remained hydrated throughout :)

Sunday

It’s been a fun week of lots of words but, more excitingly, lots of actions.  Mopping up her own spilt drinks, throwing her finished foods (and trash) in the trash and giving people their bags when they’re ready to leave.  Most people would think it was a sign she was wanting them to leave but we know it’s just her way of showing understanding that they’re about to leave.  On Saturday Adam was getting his wallet and phone so he could leave to help out Ed & Sara so Amelia went to get his boots for him.  I don’t know how she knew they were his but she did.  She’s soaking up all this information and we didn’t even realize she was noticing.

She’s playing so well with her toys too…every time I see her talking to my Care Bear (yes, my Care Bear…I have loaned it to her), I am happy that she loves them as I used to.  Perhaps my mint-in-box vintage collection will go to good use after all.  The same goes for her My Little Pony’s.  We bought her a carousel so she can put her pony’s and their pets on there and she seems to love it.  Keeping one eye on Happy Feet (wow has that been out-played in recent weeks) and one eye on her carousel, she had a nice lazy Sunday morning.

Where Did You Get That Hat?

Where did you get that hat
Where did you get that tile
Isn’t it a nobby one
And just the proper style
I should like to have one
Just the same as that
Wherever I go they’d shout “Hello”
Where did you get that hat

I remember that song from when I was little and I want to say that my Grandma was singing it.  Well the answer to the question is…Iceland!  Courtesy of Grandma Betty and Grandpa Baz…and isn’t it fancy?

This little girl was just such a hoot this afternoon and I was lucky enough to not be the only witness!  Lallah came over to see us and we had a wonderful visit.  I have rarely used the term “As Good As Gold” when I talk about Amelia but the last two days she has just been amazing.  We have had such fun.  We’re turning a corner over here and we’re all so happy.

  5. Aunt Mary says: Well, lets see now - seems like your Gran handed down a bit of the Old Cockney spirit - which you never loose - you can take the girl out of London Town, but your can't take London Town out of the girl - pass it on. Grandma would be so proud of you both and you would probably have to prize Amelia away from her as she is such sweetheart. As they say all good Mums go to Iceland (sorry)! on 11.17.11 @ 4:29 am

    • Kate says: Hahaha...if Mum hadn't told me what you had said via text when she was in Iceland (and explained it), I wouldn't have understood the Iceland jingle! Hope you're well x x x on 11.17.11 @ 6:28 am

Getting A Breather

Having spent a lot of the week either at the doctors office or inside it was nice to get out.  Yes, we have been to the doctors office twice more and neither trip was a whole lot of fun…there was the catheter on Tuesday for a suspected UTI and then the blood test on Thursday.  I always considered myself to be fairly tough but not when it comes to holding my child down I realize that I am feeble.  Picture this:  Four adult women (including me) holding her down, one of them also trying to stick her with a needle and another one turning to me to ask me if I can get her to sing.  Uh, no.  Firstly, she doesn’t sing and secondly, if she did sing, do you really think she is going to when she’s this distressed???  Crazy.  Yes, last week was awful and stressful and I do not want to redo it anytime soon.  You have no idea how glad I was to have Saturday hit.

This is probably going to sound awful to say but, on the weekends, I just need to get some fresh air.  It just gets stuffy and there’s a feeling of sameness, so we go out.  We didn’t go far this weekend though, just a run up the road.  Amelia, armed with her jelly beans, decided to go on the hunt for other small round objects she could add to her loot.  The best thing about living on our road is that there is very little traffic so you can walk three abreast and really enjoy what you’re doing as opposed to looking in all directions for cars.

As always, after dinner Amelia has her bath and this day in particular was time for the little love to go through yet one more holding-down incident.  We got the steri-strips off.  Finally.  Gosh I hope the scar is going to fade…I have updated here.

  2. Betty says: Looks like you were having fun with your Jelly Beans. Do you know that I had a pair of boots just the same as you that my Grandma bought and I loved them. 3. mary benton says: Amelia looks fantastic, what a fashion kid! don't worry life is a funny old bag - think of it as a book - each day is a page once that day is done turn the page and start again on your new page - don't go back on the book but always keep it as a reference that you can pick out things that will help you get through your book of life. d Completely nuts she thnks - well when you get to this point in your life you will understand. Chin up, you and Adam are a good team and when the other children come along you will see how blessed you are with Amelia. Love and hugs to you both Aunt Mary on 11.7.11 @ 1:50 pm

Puzzles

When it comes to puzzles, I have to brag about Amelia.  She is AWESOME with puzzles.  Not only does she enjoy them but it seems like they’re effortless to her.  Once she has done them a handful of times though she gets bored, so instead of buying the wooden ones, I trawl the iPad app store for wooden puzzle apps to keep her interested.  It seems like problem solving is something that comes very naturally to her.  Not only that, but allowing her to play on it gives us all a little breather and some quiet time.  Of course, we take precautions like a military grade screen cover so it won’t get scratched and then a rubber frame that bounces when it’s dropped (so I have heard and read…I am pleased to say that she seems to know that she has to be careful of her new favorite toy).  Never though, when I bought this, did I think I was going to have to allot myself some time to read the news and check my emails but I am glad that she is so engaged with it…there’s 100′s of apps, we can keep her entertained forever!!

or you can just watch her

Trick or Treat

I cannot believe that she wore her outfit for the whole evening…wings too!  She had shown ZERO interest in it since we got it.  I am thankful that she suited up and really enjoyed the festivities.

She had such a blast with her pals trick or treating.  She made everyone laugh with her utter fearlessness not only in going up and getting the candy but also in checking to see if she got a good amount of candy.  She would literally sit on the person’s porch and check her pumpkin for what had just been put in LOL!!  She even tried to get into a couple of people’s homes, not content with a piece of candy she wanted to raid their pantry.

Sara and Ed were the perfect hosts and made a beautiful roast bird and roasted veggies.  We were really treated, there was just such a sense of occasion.

It was a long evening for Amelia and whilst she had fun, she had wilted by the time we were walking back.  She had the speediest bath ever and didn’t even say good night!  She just pulled the covers over her and dropped.
