Busted Nugget

Yes. Seriously.  She wanted gummy bears and slipped on her step stool when she reached, lost her footing and wacked her head on the side of the counter top.  You don’t even want to know what came out of my mouth!  Actually it was safe, I think it went like Holy Son Of A Nutcracker or something fairly PG rated.

Blood everywhere, screaming baby, a desperately-trying-not-to-lose-it mum.  About 30 seconds after it happened I had the bleeding under control and Adam rolled onto the driveway.  Off to the the doctors office (a better call than the ER…I think we would still be there).  I had 8 mins to get from Telfair on Lady’s Island to the traffic lights at Beaufort Memorial…and, I made it!  On our rushed way there, Amelia starts making an eee-ooo-eee-ooo-eee-ooo noise as if we were an ambulance!  I couldn’t believe it.

Once we were there it get’s fuzzy because I left the room…I felt sick.  They had to strap her down in a straight jacket looking thing to keep her still.  Adam, stomach made of stone, stayed with her.  A little bit of glue and some steri-strips followed by a HUGE band-aid and she was ready to go.  It took 10 mins from entering the docs office to leaving.  Bloody good I thought.  We were home in time for dinner.

What never ceases to amaze me is how quickly a kid bounces back.  She was laughing and playing with her toys in her oven and making letter sounds with her alphabet puzzle.  Really, I wonder if she had a clue.  Amazing.  Ad and I?  We need wine to feel better…there aren’t words for the craziness.

Yes, she’ll have a little scar but it’ll add character…as if she needs more!!

**Update** – Two days later and her 1st Band Aid comes off.  Of course she can’t resist an inspection in her full length mirror!

**Last Update** – and finally, the steri-strips come off!!

Bubble Eyes

A lucky snap during bath time!  Usually I don’t get involved with bath time, it’s strictly a daddy/daughter affair but I was waiting on Mojo to finish his food so I could send him outside and mop the floor.  So glad he took his sweet time otherwise I wouldn’t have got this shot which just made me giggle!!

Getting Out

I don’t know why, but it feels like we have been stuck inside for ages.  I suppose though our play dates with Sara and Archer (and Geneva of course) have been limited due to all of them, one after the other, being ill…poor things!  Then it rained a lot so we definitely couldn’t go outside.  Either way, it was good to get out.

So, with her lip and nose healed, her chattering stepped up a notch and her mood on a high, we stepped out.

The colors are changing and there lots of rich yellows, oranges and browns.  Everyone jokes with me that I am keen on the weather, but joking aside, it looks like this may be the last of the really warm weekends until next year.  Fall is so fleeting here and I always try to capture it so I can remember each year that we were out in it.

Also, in a bid to try to show Amelia about Halloween this weekend, we got out our decorations and started to “Halloween” our house.  Only problem is that she has taken a shine to the outside three and a half foot ghost light and wants to carry him everywhere.  Of course she also likes to grab at the Halloween ornaments on our feather tree.  I am seeing her excitement.  I can’t wait for a couple of weeks to get here and see her little face light up as Archer takes her hand to go trick or treating.  No, he really does.  So cute!!!

So we went to the pumpkin patch, decorated, went to the park, went on an early morning walk.  We got out!

While we were inside though we stuck to a Fall theme with beef stew and bread and butter pudding.  We even snacked on sweet potato and beetroot chips.  Yes mum, beetroot.  I love the first few days that really feel like Fall is here.  Just as much as I love the first few morning frosts.  Ah fall and Winter you’re back…I’ve missed you!

The Turnaround

in this kiddo has been amazing over the last three months BUT one of the most quick and surprising was on Wednesday night when she decided that after two years she DID like books after all! She went to bed with a couple of books and it’s really taken off. She has even been imitating tickling a baby in one of her books., saying tickle tickle and scripting to page. I can honestly say I am relieved…I could spent hours and days in a bookstore and to have her not share the same love has been sad…but it’s all worked out. I just needed a little patience. So reading to her can really be fun now.

You wouldn’t believe the difference…any time before Wednesday she would just shove the books back at me when I would try to read one or show her something. I can’t wait to take her to the book store so she can pick her very first book.

Of course I couldn’t resist catching her in the act lest she decide, once again, that books aren’t for her, I’ll have one or two pictures to look back on with rose tinted glasses!  We were about to go for a walk (hence the scarf) when the heavens opened.  She ran to her room, kicked off her boots, climbed onto her seat and started flicking through her favorites.  There’s just something so grown up about her…

She sure does keep up on our toes!!

Rumbled

She found the Christmas present hideout (she even brought her cow flashlight along for the exploration). I just love her “Hey, look at what I found” look. She was just staring at me as if wondering why on earth her toys were in my room! I was really proud of her when she didn’t get upset when I took them and hid them (again). She jut ran out of the room to reunite with the toys she ‘can’ play with.

I need to do a better job of hiding her stuff, she’s far more sneaky than I give her credit for.

It’s a snapshot but I hope that this will be the only time that this happens! I had to capture her…standing on the drawer to reach, the picture of innocence!

Consequences

There are consequences to most things and sometimes those consequences hurt. Not just emotionally but physically. Worst of all, is watching someone face a consequence and not being able to stop it. Welcome 5:30pm. Amelia is sitting on the sofa and struck out to kick Adam (something we have been telling her is NOT OK). She lost her balance before she got to him and twisted as she fell to the wooden floor so she hit her face. It shook us all up. I still feel sick. She bit through her most of her top lip and split the bit that holds your lip and gum together. She also fell on her nose and the thinking is that she has probably fractured it. The doctor has told us that not much can be done other than to monitor her, cuddle her and let her rest. I hate that. I keep thinking there was something more we could have done but I know that that only exists in magical movies.

Amelia is not much for cuddling or being shhhhed off to sleep. So we have had to be content with leaving her door open and checking on her every two minutes.

When I was a little younger than Amelia I broke my wrist because I was standing up on the sofa and using the top half of my body to push back hard time and again. Mum warned me I would hurt myself and shortly afterward I went flying off the sofa onto the floor. I know the panic and upset my mum felt now. Consequences…suck!
