Changes

I find that with children so much changes so fast.  And unless you’re a psycho with a camera documenting each week you can miss it.  You can imagine how glad I am that some things remain the same…

She still likes to admire herself in any reflective surface LOL!

Whilst the paci has gone, the nail biting still continues from time to time (it’s vastly reduced now and her nails can be taken out in public!), she’s still fascinated with her mouth and tongue, Bunnykins is still her one true love and she still likes to be rude from time to time.  It’s good to know that some things don’t change!

Be Kind To Rosie

I think it’s so important to impress upon children to be kind and gentle to animals.  Amelia is no different when it comes to children, she’s a little heavy handed and obviously curious.  Aside from the hilarity of watching her chase the dogs around in a vain attempt to mount them and ride them like a pony, strong-arm tactics aren’t really something we are OK with.  Her curiosity has been steadily getting more and more and especially since they’re so small I am sure she wonders what they do (bark all the time and beg mostly).  The other day I saw her plucking hair out of poor sweet Rosie.  (She’s the kind of dog who can look at you so pitifully that you’ll feed her again).  So, we have been teaching her to pet Rosie with an open hand and have actually seen results.  No ear pulling and no plucking, Rosie can now tentatively look forward to a gentle stroke.  It doesn’t stop her from looking alarmed and terrified as Amelia runs toward her though!

Potty Trained!

I know I have been pretty quiet, I haven’t been able to get on here as ALL my time has been focussed on Amelia.  We gave the potty training a go last week.  Whoever said that was easy must not have had to do it.  But, we’re done and she’s trained.

In fairness it was a battle of the will’s…I won!  And really that’s all that matters hahahaha.  No, seriously, the first day she didn’t go to the loo for 6 hours!  She held it all the way through lunch.  Hard headed and stubborn!!!  Taking the good out of it and ignoring how incredibly frustrating it was, at least she has bladder control. Tuesday was a little better but she was still trying to show me who was boss. Wednesday we were really getting there and I was marveling at my patience.  Having a child really shows you what you’re made of.  Thursday didn’t count as she was being watched by a friend while I went to Charleston to get my citizenship – yes, I passed the English written and reading tests (phew) and am now a US Citizen – and was in a pull-up all day.  Friday she had it and was pottying all on her own.  Running up to the bathroom, slamming the door in my face and doing her thing.  I am so proud (and so is she).

Most of all, I am glad to be rid of diapers!  Yay for Amelia…

Lazing

We spent a lazy morning holed up on the sofa watching Cars.  Amelia is a fan but only if she can be watching it away from the riff-raff of her family.  Her new lookout position is sitting on the back of the sofa…not ideal but I think if I make a fuss she’ll be far more inclined to do it.  She wins this one.

After we had watched her movie. eaten breakfast and played for a couple of hours it was nap time.  Quiet time where we have a tiny amount of time to do things that need to be done.  So, naturally, Adam and I watched a movie.  Hahahaha.  Meh…it’s the weekend!

It always makes me laugh when Amelia wakes up with a rockin’ new do…she can pull it off too.  Adults can’t get away with it.  She was hungry for lunch and sweaty from being under the covers.  Those curls are crazy though and just when I didn’t think she could get much curlier she woke up with a curly mop…the pics are below.  She has a new (and annoying) thing though at the dinner table which is putting her knees up and sometimes trying her luck with putting a foot on the table.  Each time she does it I wonder what my Dad would say if he were here.  Always a stickler for good table manners, he would be disappointed to say the least!  Thankfully I have a very clear memory when it comes to his dining tactics so perhaps we need to work on Amelia a-la-Baz and see if we can improve the situation!

  1. Betty says: Well curly top it looks like you are enjoying your food. Glad mum captured the knees up position at the table because you are now starting to get that we sit with our legs under the table, keep working on it though. on 07.17.11 @ 8:22 pm

Summer’s Here!!

We are thrilled to be able to finally get out in the sun and enjoy lazy weekends of barbecue’s, paddling pools and icy drinks.  We’ve been staying pretty close to home since our last post due to me working and Amelia not being able to kick strep throat.  We’re confidant (because we have to be) that this latest batch of anti’s has got it gone…we’ll know on Tuesday.  Urgh.

Anyway, enough about that…I feel like a broken record as far as Amelia’s health goes.  It’s amazing really that she’s not immune to the antibiotics at this point.

We had such a great lazy weekend in the garden for Memorial weekend.  I have been so busy with princesses and private clients that I haven’t had much time to myself.  Adam is beginning to feel the burn now that summer’s here and is working outside all week.  So, we headed to World Market, picked up an adirondack chair and chillaxed all weekend.  We made burgers, salads, granita’s and had a blast.

I’m sorry if these pictures seem repetitive but isn’t that what kids are all about?  The first couple of pictures have me humming Should I Stay Or Should I Go by The Clash…the thing with the glasses in the next two is new.  She constantly puts them upside down, it reminds me of Dennis Taylor!  I’m sure when she asks me one day who Dennis Taylor is, and realizes who I compared her to, it’ll be yet another apology I have to make.  Well that and the fact that I posted pictures of her bathing suit mishap!!
