Since Amelia’s surgery, and her subsequent rash, we have been in the house. And let me tell you how boring it can be. Some days were more dull than others but we got a lot done too…
Amelia played with new toys, helped to bake a lasagne, eagerly awaited Daddy coming home, tried out some new TV watching tactics (the body surfing didn’t look too comfortable) and she insisted on wearing her special surgery shoes a lot! She mowed the lawn, tried out new places to sleep, watched lots of movies and even found time for a few tantrums…truly a sign she was on the mend.
Wow, was I glad (for her and us) when the rash went. What an ordeal. And finally we could be around other humans again without the worry of becoming notorious for spreading whatever it was that she had!
With all of that past us now, she is better and enjoying life. She seems much happier. She extremely good about wearing her ear plugs and doesn’t complain one bit, she is still selective with her hearing but you can tell she is also hearing better. We’re so happy it all worked out!

Well last week was a whirlwind for sure…
Monday, we were at the doctor (again) with another ear infection and more antibiotics. I really do feel like I am becoming good friends with the ladies at the surgery, it’s one thing after another here but one thing I can be sure of, a weekly visit to the surgery. Joking aside, I asked if we could start to take a more aggressive approach to the ears and the doctor agreed it was time for an ENT consult. Betty decided it was time to go home due to my Great Uncle’s sudden death which we have all be very sad about. So my time with Betty was limited, she would be flying out on Saturday.
Tuesday, we had the consult and got her in for an adenoidectomy and tubes/grommets. She would be going in on Thursday while she was out of school on Spring break. They also fitted her with ear plugs which I guess are going to take some getting used to by all of us!
Wednesday, just a fuss free day of feeding everything we could to Amelia. She ate so much that I would have been full had I eaten the same. She was so good all day and went right off to sleep. Betty is staying now until she leaves to help out and soak up Amelia time.
Thursday, the big day. We had to be there at 6:30am so that Amelia wasn’t too cranky from being nil by mouth. She was so good. All the nurses fussed over her and she happily changed into her hospital gown and sat quietly waiting to be taken away. It was such a short time that she was down for and of course everything went well. She was so unhappy when she woke up, we could her her cries a while before we saw her. I was expecting her to want to sleep when we got home but instead she watched Ice Age and ate teddy grahams. It’s funny how kids can be…we, the adults, were exhausted. Adam still had to work a full day and Betty and I took turns to sit and cuddle with Amelia. She even got a visit from her Auntie Lallah.
Friday was an OK day, not much but lazing around and staying quiet. Amelia had her two year check up and that was OK but in the afternoon she became more grizzly. I guess the pain in her throat was finally kicking in as she refused food and barely drank.
Saturday we said goodbye to Betty pretty early and really it all fell apart after that. Amelia got a temperature, wouldn’t eat or drink and was generally listless and miserable all day. It was a movie-thon day and I had so hoped she would be improved from the day before. The on-call doctor was kind and encouraged fluids but Amelia just wasn’t interested so I had no option but to offer her a bottle to take to bed. She drank some overnight.
Sunday was much like Saturday, lots of sofa time but with a tiny improvement on drinking but we were still worried and constantly monitoring. The diarrhea started
When would this kid catch a break?!?
Today, Monday. She woke up with a rash all over her face and chest which has now started to spread all over her body. She has a fever again and still has the diarrhea. Of course, no Monday would be complete without a visit to the doctor where we were told that it’s probably viral. It’s fair to say that Amelia is feeling pretty sorry for herself and we are for her too…
Each day I wake up hoping it will be a better day…odds are that sometime soon that should be the case. Until then, think of her and send her some get-well-soon wishes.

The bottom two pics are from this morning…
