It’s Sprung

spring that is…we’re into solid 60′s and 70′s here in good ole South Carolina.  All I can say is, it’s about time!!

It feels like it’s been an age and a day since I sat down and wrote on here properly…we’ve just been sick and busy.  The blog has sadly been neglected but who can’t relate to that?!  Actually Miss Amelia is still poorly, though nowhere near as bad as a couple of weeks ago.  Just one ear causing a fuss but that will soon be a thing of the past!

I can’t believe how time has flown, we’re at the end of February (where did the month go) and in just a few weeks we’ll be celebrating a certain Little Miss’s 2nd birthday.  She’s all grown up now and no longer a little baby.  To mark the occasion we have been working super hard on getting her room ready.  Amelia had her last night in her crib on February 5th…it all happened so quickly…she was trying to get out of it and even had her leg over the side a couple of times so I got it on Craigslist asap…it was gone in a matter of hours, I didn’t feel like I had the time to properly say goodbye to it.  So her last ever picture of her in her crib is here.  It may seem a ridiculous notion but it marked Amelia growing into a little girl and having to safely and quietly tuck all of the baby memories away.  After Sara swooped in and lent us her travel crib, we started the “remodel”!  Painting (not a strong point for either Adam or myself)…but we did it (and it looks quite good…less the blotches on the trim and the odd dot on the ceiling hehehehe).  A new toddler bed, decorations and so on…don’t worry, it’s soon to be showcased I’m just waiting on the finishing touches.  In my opinion, (and really does any other one count :) ), it looks a-m-a-z-i-n-g!  Watch this space…

Otherwise, we have both been working pretty hard and I have had some wonderful families to photograph and a teeny tiny little love.  Now I know why so many of you were hesitant to hold Amelia when she was so tiny…this little girl was the same size and just so perfectly tiny.  It was a reminder of how quickly time flies.  Still, whenever I am asked what my favorite stage has been I answer “the one she’s in now”.  They’re all my favorite!

I have been for yet another fingerprint appointment in Charleston…there’s nothing quite like a four hour round-trip drive for a fifteen minute appointment!  We made the most of it and had an afternoon trawling shops and getting lunch.  I will be so glad when all the immigration stuff is over…we’re into the 4th year.  It’s been quite a journey!

Amelia is getting great reports at school and really seems to be warming up to the crowd that she has there…I couldn’t be happier that the sobbing and holding onto my jeans has stopped.  Can you say guilty??  I felt so bad leaving her there when she was like that…one day I stayed so that I could talk to the Principal and all I could hear were her sobs echoing around the walls for 45 minutes!  OK, well some of it was rage but she certainly wasn’t happy…

Still, the same cannot be said for these great shots that Adam got of Amelia and I a little while ago…

Nebulizer…

Oh dear…she’s really not well.  Now I have some idea as to how my parent’s felt time and again when I couldn’t breathe.  I am happy to be able to say though, that Amelia is turning a corner and has been such a happy little soul today.  Thanks for all the well wishes for little Amelia everyone!

What No One Tells Mum

Have I mentioned how sick I am of being ill?  I’m pretty sure it’s come up a few times :)

Why is it that when everyone is telling you how wonderful it is to become a parent that they never mention how awful it is when you’re ill.  I love my parents but I couldn’t think to live with them now, I have my daily routine and they have theirs and we both love our personal space, but when I am ill and feeling rough I’d go back to live with them in a heartbeat (until I felt better that is).  Someone to fuss over you, make sure that a drink is always close by, cook you special things and generally baby you.  Oh yeah, I need that and I want it right now.  Dad makes a mean winter veg stew and Mum makes homemade sausage rolls (pigs in blankets).  I can dream can’t I?  Too bad they’re 4,000 miles away I guess.

The funny thing is, when your child is ill, instinct takes over and you’re actually happy to fuss all over them…at least, that’s how I feel.  Today I am feeling sorry for myself…really sorry for myself.  So much so that when my good friend Sara asked me how I was I asked her to take it back lest I start crying.  I have never been so eager to drop Amelia off at school, I just feel pathetic and need to sit down and watch a movie I wouldn’t normally be able to watch.  Now I just need to find someone to keep making me hot drinks and bake me cakes.

So Amelia, this post is for you, when you’re older and actually understand what I mean because you’re feeling awful (but still have to find a way to function), you’ll know that there is someone who has been in the same boat.  Like every Mum you know and have ever known.  Us Mum’s have to be superhero’s sometimes.

So, to cheer myself up…and you too, these were taken on the weekend when it felt decidedly Springish…we’re really ready for the warmer weather now!!

Hush

The poor little love is suffering again with her teeth.  Well we can all imagine what she is like during her waking moments (so bad that the school actually called me to come and get her because she was so inconsolable).  But who would have imagined she could look so sweet and dreamy when she slept?
