Daddy Time

It’s amazing how quickly things change with babies and toddlers.  Just the other day I was saying to Sara, my very good friend, how Amelia had surpassed Mojo and Rosie.  You can see her learning and understanding whereas Mojo will blankly look at you.  We were laughing at it because all of us who have had a baby, have at one stage treated them like a performing monkey, myself included.  But now Amelia will only do it if it pleases her.  I admire her for it!

Today, out of nowhere, while Adam was giving our back yard an Army haircut (seriously, I was aghast), Amelia decided she wanted to watch one of her Baby Einstein DVD’s.  She turned on the TV, grabbed the DVD remote and found the play button!  Uh oh…better watch out…soon she’ll be thinking she can navigate her way around getting a DVD in and out of the player!

Tonight, after a fun outing and her much needed Daddy time, we laid her down to sleep but she wasn’t having it, instead she shouted to let her out to play.  It rarely happens now but the usual crying changed to that “get-up-and-run-to-her-this-is-serious” crying.  She had jammed her leg in her crib slats and turned it the wrong way.  Luckily it just pinched her.  Poor girl but it did win her a little more time out of the crib so she could forget what had happened.

But, there won’t be any pics of the crying – only the laughing!

I’m Thinking…

of opening up a hose pipe water park in my backyard with the option to have your kid photographed!!  hahahaha

I got Archer hooked on the water fun and he really did enjoy himself…I would go as far as saying that he was more adventurous than Milly.  He started spraying everyone!!  Amelia stuck to trying to spoon the water into her mouth and not being able to coordinate her arms and hose, she ended up spraying herself in the face several times!

We should have used the video camera as well…it won’t be a novelty for much longer…

I love that Amelia and Archer get along so well and I was extremely buoyed when Sara told me that her Dad had high hopes for the two of them in the future.  I couldn’t agree more!!

Her New Things

I am aware that I haven’t put in a real update for a while…it just seems that things have been fairly hum drum the last few weeks and, as I used to put in my 1986 diary, page after page, it seems like all I’ve had to say is ”had fun and went to bed” (seriously, page after page!!).

But, more than that has happened.  No reprieve here from the teething (and if you look closely at the pic below I have photographic proof)…her canines are coming in too.  Who comes up with these schedules??  No wonder kids don’t  remember their baby days – who’d want to with all the teeth, bumps and bangs?!!  Still, despite the pain she must be feeling, I took the advice of Michele and have been offering waffles to Amelia, she loves them and now we have no grizzling during the day.  Thank you Michele!

On a far more positive  note (I think), Amelia is finally able to climb onto the sofa and she’s very impressed with herself too.  She was so excited at her new feat that she spent no less than an hour climbing on and off in quick succession.  Over-thinking this (as I love to do), while watching her I tried to think of something proportionately comparable that adults could climb onto.  All I know is that my legs wouldn’t be working after 5 minutes of it let alone an hour.  No wonder she has long naps!  Now where can I get cans of this baby energy???

One of the most exciting things that she has learnt to do is throw Mojo’s ball for him.  He has found a friend in a toddler, whether or not they’ll be friends when she can catch him and use strong arm tactics is another matter.  But for now, they entertain one another.

As for Adam and I…not too much here.  We’re back to getting a full night’s sleep now that Amelia has settled down a bit and we’re both ready for this insanely hot summer to be over…Adam more than me since he works outside.  It’s just too hot.  Oh how I wish I was a state or two north…one day!

The latest of Amelia…

3 Years…and 1 month

Last month we had been married three years and together for four but, without a tripod or another human being we only had a very blurred snapshot to remember it by…not anymore.  Tamara and her family came to visit today in a somewhat impromptu visit and she took some pics of us.  It was so much fun seeing our little girls together again and catching up on the last couple of months.

Now, when I look back I can see what we looked like after three years of marriage.  We definitely need to do better at getting our picture taken…thanks Tamara, we love it!!  Can’t wait to see you again soon…

Did you know

how much fun you can have if you grab a kid, a hose and a camera?  Bucket loads…Adam and I were crying at one point, holding our bellies!  I said to him that I wasn’t sure how the pics would turn out on account of my hands shaking because I was laughing so hard.  Can’t wait to do it again tomorrow…truly, lots of fun!

Too Cute!

OK…can I get a whoop whoop for us (especially Amelia)…she cut FOUR, yes 4, molars in one week.  I feel like Ewan McGregor from Rogue Trader (I just lost 50 million quid in one day).  Well, it’s not quite that momentous but we’re very proud of the fact that we all survived hahahaha

We went to a friend’s pool today to test the water (no pun intended) with Amelia.  It was a blast and so nice to have a few minutes of family time.  We have spared you pics of Adam and I hehehe…but tell me that you don’t think she’s the most adorably cute and squidgy whirly girl that you’ve ever seen AND in the cutest bathing suit…courtesy of Emily (my friend who also bought her little Japanese play suit).  Perhaps I should leave the clothing choices to her from now on as quite clearly she has excellent taste :)

Old Is New

What comes around goes around!  When I was tiny my Dad went on a business trip to Japan and brought back some Disney blocks.  There are six pictures you can make; Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Pluto, Donald and Daisy.  As I grew up, from time to time I would raid the attic and have a play.  A few years ago before I came over here, Mum was doing a huge clear out of what she fondly called “junk” when she asked if I wanted my blocks…of course I did!  What I was going to do with them was unclear but I definitely wanted them.  Good job I did too because Amelia loves them…she loves to wreck the faces we put together, stack them and smash them together as if she was clapping.

Today, I got another reminder of the good old days…I got a package from the UK of Angel Delight.  A dessert I loved as a child.  It’s sort of a cross between flavored custard and mousse.  It’s good.  And young Miss Amelia thinks so too.  So much so that she was kind enough to give me a smile or two…albeit with a pacifier jammed in her mouth.  But hey, no complaints here.  She had her first full nights sleep in over a week which meant that the adults did too – we’re all smiling today!

  2. mary says: Hello Kate. well talking about Old is New, I still have my dolls pram which you probably will not remember your Mum put you in when playing in our garden back in the days when Mike and I lived in Sidcup. It looks a little sad now as not been played with for many a day but still in working order - would be a nice project if I could do it up have a new layett made for it and ship it out to Amelia - its a proper old fashion silver cross looking pram - anyway lovelly to see you all so happy - loved the pic of all three on a hill. PS: Happy belated Anniversary - how the years fly by. Lv Auntie Mary on 08.11.10 @ 4:44 am

Another Week…Gone

Well it’s been a looooong week.  So many reasons for it…my Mum went home and I think we were all sad to see her go.  Nothing like a visit from Betty to make it all good.  But, she got home safe and sound and now it’s only a matter of time before she’ll be back…I already have the calendar marked.  As if knowing that Betty has now gone, Amelia seemed to step up her teething.  I see little white corners though so I know there has to be an end in sight.

Since I know there is no way in the world that I could have encouraged Amelia to smile, we went for something else this week.  I love it (if I do say so myself)!
